WIndows Phone 7 Upgrade to Support IPv6
Microsoft has confirmed that the forthcoming Mango upgrade for its Windows Phone 7 smartphone OS will support the internet addressing system known as IPv6.
Most websites and internet based services are based on IPv4, but that standard will run out of new capacity fairly shortly, leading to an industry drive to the effectively unlimited capacity offered by IPv6.
Current models would not have been able to participate in the recent World IPv6 Day that was designed to test support for the new addressing system.
Although the current WP7 operating system is stuck in IPv4 mode, the upgrade will support future services that might be deployed only using the newer Ipv6 platform.
